Forum & Expo
We are pleased to announce a very special event for 15- to 24-year-old New York City youth that will take place on April 16, 2009 at Hostos Community College in the Bronx. This full day expo and forum is being planned with and for youth leaders who are involved with health, wellness, and sustainability. It will be a venue for cross-pollination between the fields of food, farming, and active living.
This event is intended to further youth involvement in these dynamically related areas as well as act as a call for organizations and individuals to provide young people with opportunities for meaningful engagement. Youth-led workshops, plenaries, games and performance art will be complimented by a career expo, which will feature a diverse array of organizations that will offer related internships, apprenticeships, jobs and other opportunities.
Opportunities in Food, Farming and Active Living
The day will include: workshops by youth, for youth; expo of enterprise projects, apprenticeships, internships and jobs; youth-led teams and organizations; dance, martial arts, and other activities; healthy, delicious food; and opportunities for youth and adult collaboration. It is now more important than ever for young people to examine the connections between themselves, the natural systems that provide for and sustain them, and the institutions they will inherit.
The goal of the event is to facilitate an intergenerational learning environment that will inspire young people to engage with the kaleidoscope of important issues surrounding food systems and healthy lifestyles, and to empower them with the tangible resources necessary to become active change agents in and around New York City.
